Choosing the Grind
How do I know which grind to choose?
At Java Joy Coffee, we provide both whole beans and pre-ground coffee, allowing you to select the ideal grind for your preferred brewing technique.
If you’re unsure about which grind suits your brewing method or need help choosing the right coffee maker, we’ve created a brief guide to our available grind types and the various brewing methods that pair perfectly with our freshly roasted, flavorful coffees.
For each brewing method listed below, you can explore our recommended coffee bean options that are tailored to the specific grind size and technique.
Whole Roasted Coffee Beans
Brewing Methods: Bean-to-Cup Machines
Bean-to-Cup Machines
For those who value speed and simplicity, Bean-to-Cup coffee machines handle the entire brewing process with just the push of a button. Since these machines grind the beans for you, opting for our whole beans is the best choice for enjoying your favourite coffee.
Ground for Espresso / Moka Pot
Grind Brewing Methods: Espresso Machines, Moka Pots
Espresso Machine
With an espresso machine, ground coffee is placed in a small metal basket within the handle. The basket’s tiny holes let liquid pass through while keeping the grounds out of your cup. Once the handle is secured, near-boiling water is forced through the coffee, delivering a rich, complex espresso.
Moka Pot
This stove-top coffee maker, created by Alfonso Bialetti in 1933, brews by forcing pressurized boiling water through ground coffee. Steam pressure builds in the lower chamber, pushing water through the coffee grounds and into the upper chamber, resulting in a robust brew.
Ground for Cafetière
Brewing Methods: Cafetière / French Press
Cafetière or French Press
Despite its name, the French Press was invented by Italian designer Attilio Calimani in 1929, though a similar device dates back to 1852. Unlike other methods where water passes through the coffee, the French Press allows coffee and water to steep together, ensuring a more even extraction.
Ground for Filter / AeroPress
Brewing Methods: Filter / AeroPress
Filter
This method extracts flavour by pouring water over ground coffee, with a filter used to separate the grounds from the drink. Filters can be made of metal, cloth, or paper, though paper filters are favoured for producing the cleanest cup.
AeroPress
Introduced in 2005 by Alan Adler, the AeroPress is a portable and durable coffee brewer, ideal for travellers. It combines steeping coffee grounds with water, similar to the French Press, and then uses a piston to push the water through the grounds and filter, mimicking an espresso or filter coffee maker.
Ground for Pods
Brewing Methods: Coffee Pod Machines
Coffee Pod Machines
Coffee pod machines are all about convenience, offering a quick and easy way to brew a single cup of coffee with minimal effort. Our ground coffee for pods is specifically prepared to achieve the perfect consistency for use in these machines, ensuring a smooth and consistent extraction.
Simply place the pod into the machine, and hot water is automatically pumped through, extracting the rich flavours and aromas from the coffee. This method delivers a delicious and perfectly balanced cup every time, making it ideal for those who value speed without sacrificing taste. Perfect for busy mornings or a quick pick-me-up any time of day.
